The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) handed over 60 houses in Windhoek Samora Machel constituency, Greenwell Matongo settlement on Monday, 06 February 2023.  The 60 houses were constructed under the Informal Settlement Upgrading Program Pilot Project and smart partnership between the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development Urban, Khomas Regional Council, National Housing Enterprise (NHE) HE and City of Windhoek (COW). The project was launched in August 2020 and has delivered 570 houses constructed by both NHE COW in various Informal Settlement Areas of Windhoek.

‘’This is a custom made and deliberate approach to deliver affordable, decent houses for those with very minimal income,’’ said Hon. Eratus Uutoni, Minister of Urban and Rural Development Minister. The Minister urged beneficiaries to ensure that they honour their monthly payments of their houses so that the repayments can be used to build more houses for their fellow residents. Petrus Joshua Lilongeni, a beneficiary on the project, was lost for words as he received keys to his brand-new home.

The NHE is still committed to deliver on its mandate so that all Namibians have access to decent housing. This will help to improve peoples lives and mental health, while also creating a conducive environment in which communities can thrive.
