Hon. Uutoni said that through government’s different interventions towards the delivery of housing, there are still strides being made despite enormous challenges. The government continue to make a difference through the National
Housing Enterprise, build together
programme, shack dwellers federation, informal settlement upgrading, and the Mass Housing Development Programme that will be completed soon.

“For your information, sometime back in July, we witness the handing over of 108
houses in Swakopmund under the Mass Housing Development Programme some might be aware that there have been prolonged delays on the programme
due to contractual issues between contractors, but we are now moving to complete to the project. Earlier this month I again handed over 66 houses built through the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia in Walvis Bay. In Windhoek we
frequently handover houses built under the Informal Settlement Upgrading Project that caters for the low-income groups living in the informal settlements and all this signifies that quite a lot is happening” he said.

The chairperson of the National Housing Enterprise Board of Directors Ms. Toska Sem stated that The NHE is mandated to build and finance quality and affordable housing for Namibian inhabitants and are working tirelessly to guarantee the efficient and effective deliverance of this important national mandate as evidenced by the handing over of houses in Omuthiya.

“As the champion or the Government agency responsible for housing in
Namibia, it is pleasing to note that this project involved Namibians from
start to finish and benefitted a lot of families. I am reliably informed that 48
Namibians were employed during the construction phase of this project,” she said.
